Drawing Bodies

I am excited to have the opportunity to do another TED talk, and to speak at the TEDxBAW event next week. I have been at work on my talk over several months–it is a long process to craft something using images and words into a coherent 18 minute message.  And know it so I don’t use notes.

The talk is about women’s bodies. Drawing bodies of all sorts and genders is my bread and butter; and in the talk, I explore many of the funny and serious issues that confront my own, and all women’s, embodiment.

The cartoon above is one from the talk. I also created a video, but cannot show it to you until the talk is delivered. Stay tuned!

  1. Karen Raff says:

Oh dear! Botox. Phytochemicals. Bikram yoga. Cellulite cream. Is it a conspiracy to diminish our sense of empowerment? What if the tables were turned and the “natural state” of women and their bodies was valued? What if it was the “men” who were being “marketed to” to use the creams, potions and cosmetic surgery options we, as women, have been inundated with? (The political world would surely be a different place!)

  2. Rob Husberg says:

So true, Karen. Regardless, the very idea of Newt applying creams and potions
is truly nausea-inducing. And no amount of cosmetic surgery will help his mind.
And Liza — another TED talk…oh goody, I can’t wait! It’s hard to imagine the
amount of work that goes into it — let alone getting up in front of all those people
and actually DOING it! You can draw, you’re funny, AND you’ve got guts.
